The rated passage is not the only figure that moves when a T12 goes into the airbox. A medium that arrests particles down to 7 microns takes far more out of the same air than one that stops at 80, and everything it takes out stays in the element until somebody lifts the lid. Choosing the finest medium Sprint Filter makes is therefore also choosing to open the box more often — and on a 250 Duke that is a rhythm bought for conditions the machine will seldom be in.
Key Features
- Dry polyester nonwoven rated at 7 µm with a flow of 560 l/m²/sec
- Against the P08's 80 µm and 5,050, that is roughly a ninth of the passage
- Not a weave but a mat: the fineness comes from the structure and depth of the fibres
- Never oiled at any stage; regenerated with compressed air and, when needed, water
- Fits the standard airbox exactly where the paper panel sat, with no remap called for
- Reusable for as long as the bike lasts, with two years of warranty from purchase
Finer fills sooner
Two elements in the same box, on the same road, on the same day meet identical air. What separates them is how much of it they keep. This medium is built to arrest the fine fraction a P08 passes, which is the point of it — and it follows that it reaches any given state of loading earlier than the coarser cloth does. That is not a defect: a filter that holds more has more in it. It is the running cost of fine filtration, paid in attention rather than in money, because the element is cleaned instead of replaced.
What the extra visits buy
On a piste, a great deal: the material a 7-micron mat arrests is the material that does the damage, and out there it arrives continuously. On a road-ridden 250 Duke, much less, because the dose is far smaller — while the machine pays for that retention in passage on every ride, dust or no dust. This is where the P14 deserves a look: catalogued for this bike, a nonwoven at 14 microns and 1,800 litres per square metre per second, it costs about a third of the flow rather than a ninth. No drop-in element makes a standard 250 Duke faster — a 249 cc single inside the A2 category has its ceiling set long before the intake — and the real benefit is a low intake restriction restored at every service instead of decaying between them.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does most of it: applied at the clean side of the PM200T12 and driven outward through the mat, it carries the load back out by the route it entered. When air alone stops being enough, hand-warm water with a mild detergent finishes the job, followed by rinsing until nothing further comes out. Dry it in circulating air alone — heat and flame are both out — and refit it only when dry throughout. Downloads holds Sprint Filter's own sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
The T12 for the KTM 250 Duke, 2017 to 2023, sitting in the unmodified original airbox. This code covers six machines, all KTM, spanning 125 to 390 cm³ and taking in both Adventures; the wider family takes other Sprint Filter media in the same housing. The Fitment tab lists the six with their years.
