Sprint Filter publishes a retention figure for two of the three media offered for this airbox: 93.13 % for the 80 µm weave and 95.22 % for the 85 µm racing cloth, both taken from the same comparison against 100-micron particles. For the P14 there is no such number, and rather than an omission that is closer to a courtesy. A test that throws 100-micron grains at a fabric rated at 14 cannot say anything useful about it, because every medium on the list is already finer than the particle being counted. The CM265P14 has to be chosen on its own two published figures and on the roads it will meet.
Key Features
- Dry non-woven fabric with a stated filtration of 14 µm and a flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- No published retention percentage for this medium, and no figure borrowed from another one
- Holds particles in the depth of the material instead of on a single woven face
- Twice the filtering surface, near enough, of other performance elements in the same housing
- Oil-free throughout, washable, and fitted straight into the unmodified series airbox
- Designed to outlast the service schedule, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
What the missing number would have measured
Percentages are only comparable when the test behind them is the same, and the published comparison uses one particle size across the range. Above a certain fineness the result stops discriminating: three media that all stop something far smaller than the test grain will all score high, and the ranking that comes out says more about the test than about the fabrics. Quoting a number from the woven medium here would look reassuring and mean nothing. Sprint Filter states a pore size instead, and a pore size is the honest form of the claim for a material like this one.
The two figures that are published
Fourteen microns is the reason to fit this element and 1,800 l/m²/sec is what having it costs, measured on a square metre of clean material against 5,050 for the standard weave. That reduction is real and should be read as real: it is paid continuously, in exchange for particles that are stopped rather than passed. It is also the whole of what changes. A drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and the Super Meteor 650 will not feel different for having the finer medium in it. What changes is what does not arrive at the throttle body.
Care and cleaning
Air first, held against the clean side of the CM265P14 and worked outwards. Water second, and only where the load is greasy: lukewarm, a mild detergent, then rinsing until it runs clear. Drying third, in open air, with no heat gun and no flame anywhere near the material. The element is refitted dry and untreated, exactly as it came out of the packet. The maintenance sheet is available in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, 2023 to 2026. Sprint Filter lists the same fine medium against the Shotgun 650 from 2024 and the Classic 650 from 2025, so three machines share it. Check your own model year in the Fitment tab.
