Of everything on this fitment list, the F 800 GT is the machine built to pile on distance. It is the faired sport-tourer of the family, belt-driven, laid out for hours rather than minutes, and the ones still in use have the odometers to prove it. Every scheduled service so far has ended the same way: a paper panel lifted out, glanced at, binned, a new one unwrapped. The PM35S is the point at which that stops being a recurring line on the schedule.

Where the paper goes

A pleated paper element has exactly one life. It leaves its wrapper at its best, its resistance rises from the first kilometre onward, and no operation restores it — which is why such a filter is never repaired, only exchanged, and why a long-distance machine has quietly retired a small stack of them. A dry polyester weave is built on the opposite idea. Air regenerates it, water finishes the job when air cannot, and it goes back in; Sprint Filter design the element to last as long as the motorcycle carrying it, which on a bike of this age is a statement about the years still ahead.

Two figures worth reading together

The medium is quoted at 80 µm with a rated 5,050 litres per square metre per second, which places the P08 among road and track parts rather than the fine media meant for dust. Finer fabrics exist and they pass less air — a trade, never a ranking — and a sport-tourer belongs squarely on the road side of it. The rating being per square metre is also why surface counts: this element folds close to twice the filtering cloth of other performance filters into the frame BMW's airbox already accepts. None of which adds power. A drop-in panel cannot.

Care and cleaning

A compressor is the whole toolkit. Aim the air at the side that faces the engine and work outward, so the deposit is pushed back through the face that caught it. If a wet autumn has left a film behind, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and keep rinsing until the run-off is clear.
