Service schedules are written in kilometres, and a cruiser is the machine most likely to argue with that. A 502 C that covers a few hundred unhurried kilometres between spring and autumn reaches the replacement date for its air element long before it reaches the distance, because an airbox does not stop working when the bike is parked. It breathes with every swing of temperature and quietly collects whatever settles out of the air in the garage around it. Time is the interval that really falls due on a machine like this, and the Sprint Filter P08 answers it with a wash rather than a purchase.
Key Features
- Woven polyester run dry: 80 microns of filtration, 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow
- Direct fit inside the standard 502 C airbox — the original outline, unaltered
- Washable and reusable, which suits a bike that ages by the calendar
- Nothing to oil, re-oil or wash back out again at any stage
- Close to double the working area of other performance filters
- Covered for two years, and built to stay with the motorcycle
The date arrives before the distance
Low annual mileage does not mean a clean intake. Dust settles whether or not a wheel turns, damp works into a cold garage over a winter, and a weekend machine spends far more of its life standing than moving. A disposable panel bought against that calendar is spent on the passage of time as much as on the road. Washing one instead means the decision is yours to make when you open the box, not the schedule's to make on a date. None of that turns the 502 C into a faster motorcycle — an element that drops into the series airbox cannot, and should not be bought on that promise. It keeps the intake in a condition you can restore, which is a different and more honest claim.
Why the cloth does not mind waiting
A dry polyester weave has no treatment on it to age. There is no oil film to thicken, to creep, or to need renewing before the bike goes back into use, so an element cleaned in November behaves in March exactly as it did when it went away. The material takes the handling, too: it can be washed, dried and refitted over and over without the softening and splitting that eventually finishes a pleated paper panel. On a motorcycle stored more than it is ridden, that is the property worth having.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, worked outwards across the panel, is the whole of a normal service — the deposits leave the way they came in instead of being driven deeper. If the cloth is greasy rather than dusty, warm water with a trace of mild detergent will release it, followed by a thorough rinse. Drying is done by air and patience alone; keep it away from heaters and open flame, and never put a damp panel back in the box.
