DescriptionThe whole story▼
The CP3 triple is the reason people buy an MT-09, and the standard exhaust is the part that hides it. The Akrapovic Racing Line (Titanium) S-Y9R15-HAPT/1 replaces the whole system — headers, link pipes and muffler — with a shorter can that exits at the side of the bike instead of underneath, and it keeps EC and ECE type approval to Euro 5 by carrying its own catalytic converter.
Key Features
- Complete system: high-grade titanium muffler outer sleeve, stainless steel headers and link pipes, hand-crafted carbon fibre end cap
- Shorter muffler exiting at the side of the machine rather than below it — the visual change is the point of this system
- Catalytic converter included in the package, which is what allows a full system to meet Euro 5 and hold EC and ECE approval
- 2.0 PS (1.5 kW) more at 10,000 rpm and 1.3 Nm more at 9,700 rpm
- Compatible with the Yamaha accessory range, hard cases and centre stand included
- Noise insert supplied for track days with a decibel limit
- Plug-and-play in about an hour, no remapping needed despite being a complete system
What Changes on the Bike
Moving the muffler from under the engine to the right-hand side changes the MT-09's profile more than any other bolt-on part. The standard machine hides its exhaust entirely; this one puts a short titanium can where the eye lands. Akrapovic shortened the muffler specifically for that, and the carbon end cap is hand-made rather than pressed.
Underneath the styling, the construction is conventional in the right way: titanium where the sleeve is on show and mass matters, stainless steel for the headers and link pipes where the catalytic converter sits and the thermal load is highest.
Performance and Sound
Akrapovic recorded 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) more power at 10,000 rpm and 1.3 Nm more torque at 9,700 rpm. The back-to-back runs behind those figures were done on a Tracer 9, which shares the engine and the exhaust with the MT-09 — worth knowing rather than glossing over. Peak output moves from 116.2 PS to 118.1 PS.
The sound is described by the manufacturer as deep and intense, and on a 890 cc triple with an uneven firing order that is what a shorter can does: it lets the character through that the long under-engine standard silencer flattens.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y9R15-HAPT/1 is developed for the Yamaha MT-09 and FZ-09 from model year 2021 through 2023. The 2024 and later machine uses a different part, S-Y9R15-HAPT/2, so check the model year before ordering. Yamaha's own hard cases and the centre stand can stay on the bike.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, Euro 5 compliant, with the certificates supplied and available for download here. Because the catalytic converter is part of the system, nothing is removed from the emissions path and the machine stays legal.
