DescriptionThe whole story▼

With the Desert Edition, Triumph gave a special version of its big Tiger 1200 a name that points to sand, gravel and long distances from the nearest workshop. Whether yours crosses dunes or mostly motorways, the right hand has the same task on both: controlling a large adventure bike with the front brake. For the Tiger 1200 Desert Edition of 2020 and 2021, Accossato makes the EDF014, a brake lever machined from aluminium that fits the original master cylinder and can be moved closer to the grip or further out to suit your hand.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the Tiger 1200 Desert Edition, 2020 and 2021
  • Uses the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjuster close to the pivot
  • Blade lengths short, standard and long; standard about 138 mm
  • CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised finish
  • Black hub, seven blade colours
  • No hinge in the blade
  • Sold for track use, no German ABE documented

Construction and Material Quality

Off-road competition runs through Accossato's own history, which includes an enduro world title in 1985. The EDF014 is milled from solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodised when the shape is complete, with the hub always in black and the blade in one of seven colours. Anodising turns the outer skin of the aluminium into a hard oxide, and that skin copes with grit and dust better than a coat of paint would, which suits a bike called the Desert Edition. The lever is rigid, a single piece from pivot to tip, and the adjuster that sets its distance from the grip sits close to the pivot, out of the way of your fingers.

Sand Under the Front Wheel

Sand changes what the front brake is for. On tarmac the front does most of the stopping; on soft ground a firm squeeze can make the front tyre dig in or push wide, and a big adventure bike does not forgive much once that starts. Riders who take a Tiger 1200 Desert Edition across sandy tracks slow down earlier, rely more on the rear brake and the engine, and use the front only as a light addition with one or two fingers. That light addition is where the lever position counts. With the blade set close enough to rest under your fingertips while both hands keep a firm hold on the bars, you can add and release a little pressure without loosening your grip as the front wheel moves around. After a sandy day, rinse the lever and its pivot with plain water rather than blasting them with compressed air, which can drive fine grit into the gaps instead of removing it.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the Tiger 1200 Desert Edition of 2020 and 2021, Accossato names the EDF014 as the brake lever; it takes the place of the original part on the stock master cylinder. Accossato's list has no clutch lever for this edition, so the brake lever is offered on its own. Black and red blades are made as standard levers only; silver comes in standard or short; gold, orange, blue and green are available in every length.

Road Approval

A German ABE is not documented for the EDF014 on this Tiger. It is sold for track use.
