A dense medium is easy to mistake for a weatherproof one, and the two have almost nothing to do with each other. Sprint Filter does publish a cloth made for wet going — the P037, rated at 37 microns and 4,500 l/m²/sec, treated to shed water — and it is not catalogued for this airbox at all. So the choice available to a 368G owner is not between dry weather and wet. It is a decision about solid matter in the air, and this element sits at the far end of it.

What rain actually asks of an airbox

Water is answered by drying discipline rather than by mesh size, and the discipline is the same for every dry medium in the range: get the element out, let it dry in moving air at its own pace, and never help it along with heat. Polyester is chosen partly because it survives being deliberately soaked and washed, which cellulose does not — a paper panel that gets thoroughly wet is finished. None of that is a reason to fit a finer mat, and a 368G ridden through a wet winter on sealed roads is not the machine this listing is aimed at.

What it is aimed at, and what it costs

Dry gravel, farm lanes, the tail of a group on an unsurfaced approach, a summer when the road surface itself turns to powder. Against that the price is fixed and heavy: 560 l/m²/sec where the standard weave for this bike is rated at 5,050, roughly a ninth of the flow through clean material. Finer holds back more and passes less — a trade rather than a rank, and the coarser element is not the poorer one. Neither medium makes a standard 368G quicker. What this one buys is what never gets past it, collected only in the hours that were genuinely dirty.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air on the clean face, directed outwards, so the stored load leaves the mat by the route it entered. Damp or caked deposits release in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Drying is cold and unhurried — moving air only, never a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, which spoil polyester well before anything looks wrong. Refit the SM295T12 dry and untreated.
