The silencer Enea Bastianini won the 2020 Moto2 world championship with, homologated for the road and bolted to a Z900. Spark does not build a road version of the Grid-O; it sells the racing one with a certificate.
Key Features
- Euro5 approved slip-on for the Kawasaki Z900, 2020 to 2021.
- Grid-O silencer: full titanium, with the integrated outlet grid.
- The same muffler used in Moto2 by Bastianini, 2020 world champion.
- Carbon fibre heat protection included.
- Homologated by the Italian Ministry of Transport.
- No further modification to the motorcycle required.
Titanium That Changes Colour
Spark says something about this silencer most manufacturers would rather not mention: the heat will give the titanium its typical blue nuances over time.
That is not a defect and it is not reversible. Titanium exposed to exhaust temperatures develops an oxide layer that shifts through straw, bronze and blue, strongest at the front of the case where the gas is hottest. Some owners buy the material for exactly that; others are surprised by it a month in. Spark tells you in advance, which is the right way round.
The Grid Is the Point
The Grid-O takes its name from the perforated titanium grid across the outlet. It is the visual signature of Spark's racing silencers and the reason this case looks different from every other slip-on on a Z900.
Behind it the construction is full titanium with the TIG welds left unground. Spark does not soften any of that for the homologated version — the approval comes from the assembly, not from a quieter case.
Approved for All Roads
Spark states the aim plainly: Euro5 approval so the motorcycle can be ridden safely on all roads in compliance with the regulations, with a darker and more captivating sound, and a performance improvement without any further modification to the bike.
The homologation is issued by the Italian Ministry of Transport. No remap, no error lights, nothing else to buy, and the registration document stays as it is.
Two and a Half Kilos Off the Back
Spark quotes 1.5 kg for its Z900 slip-ons against 4.1 kg for the standard silencer. The Z900 carries its exhaust low and to one side, well behind the centre of mass, which is the least useful place on a naked bike for two and a half kilos to be.
The change is felt at low speed and in quick direction changes rather than on a straight. A Z900 is already a light-steering motorcycle; removing most of the weight hanging off its tail sharpens the one thing it was already good at.
The Carbon Heat Shield
Spark supplies a carbon fibre heat protector with the slip-on rather than leaving it as an accessory. On a naked bike that is not decoration — the connecting pipe runs past the rider's boot with no bodywork between them.
Because it is made for this motorcycle rather than adapted, it sits where the routing puts it instead of where a universal shield can be persuaded to fit. It is also the difference between an installation that looks finished and one that looks improvised.
Fitment & Compatibility
Kawasaki Z900, 2020 through 2021. The Konix Evo slip-ons for the same machine are GKA0905TOM in titanium and GKA0905DOM in dark style. For the 2025-2026 Z900 the equivalents are GKA0908TOM with the Grid-O and GKA0907TOM with the Konix Evo.
Road Approval
Euro5 approved, with homologation from the Italian Ministry of Transport. Legal for road use as supplied.
