DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins forks fitted with an electronic cartridge have a cap drilled for more pins than the standard version, to clear the electrical connector, and a standard fork cap wrench simply does not match that pattern. Melotti Racing built this electronic version of its fork cap wrench specifically for that cap, machined from solid Ergal and anodised in the same way as the standard tool.
Key Features
- Wrench for removing the cap on Öhlins electronic fork cartridges with an electrical connector
- Machined from solid Ergal, then anodised
- Taller hex profile machined in for better guidance when used with a torque wrench
- Ergonomic shape for a secure grip
- 8 pins engage the cap to avoid ovalising its holes
- Melotti part CH.F.6OE
Construction and Material Quality
Like the standard version of this wrench, the electronic model is machined from solid Ergal and anodised afterward, with the same taller hex profile built in for a secure fit in a torque wrench's socket. The difference is in the business end: this cap carries eight pins rather than four, matching the extra holes drilled around an Öhlins electronic cartridge's connector, so the load of removing or refitting the cap is spread across all eight rather than concentrated on fewer points.
Eight Pins for the Electronic Cartridge Cap
The extra pins on this wrench are not an upgrade over the standard tool, they are a direct consequence of the electronic cartridge's own cap design, which needs the additional holes to route its connector through the fork cap. Using the standard four-pin wrench on this cap would only engage half the available holes, concentrating torque on fewer pins and making ovalisation far more likely than with the matched eight-pin tool.
Fitment and Compatibility
Reach for this eight-pin version wherever the Öhlins cartridge in front of you carries an electrical connector on its cap; a mechanic servicing both connector and non-connector cartridges in the same session typically needs both this wrench and the standard CH.F.6O.
Road Approval
No type approval or test certificate applies to this wrench, since it is a workshop tool rather than a fitted part; it does not affect the road status of any bike it is used to service.
