DescriptionThe whole story▼
Four kilograms and change, out of the middle generation of Z900. Kawasaki's standard header assembly on the 2020 to 2024 machines weighs 7.77 kg — a figure that only makes sense once you know the catalytic converter is buried inside it.
Key Features
- Cut to 3.4 kg where Kawasaki's own assembly weighs 7.77
- Output reaches 118.8 PS, seven above the standard 111.9
- Torque climbs to 96 Nm from 92, taken at 7,000 rpm
- Works with any Akrapovic Slip-On Line built for this Z900
- Converts the silencer into a complete racing system
- Two hours of workshop time
- No road approval — circuit use only
Two Hours, Not One
Akrapovic quotes 120 minutes, the same as for the 2025 machine and double what the 2017 generation takes. Kawasaki tightened the packaging around the engine for Euro 5, and the header no longer comes out without the radiator and the lower panels being dealt with first.

Any Slip-On Will Do
The header is designed to work with any Slip-On Line Akrapovic builds for this Z900 — carbon or titanium, whichever is already on the motorcycle. An owner who fitted a silencer three years ago can complete the system now without replacing it.
Which Z900 Is Yours
Four headers exist for one model name: this one for 2020 to 2024 full power, E-K9R2 for 2017 to 2019, E-K9R7 for 2025 onwards, and E-K9R5 for the restricted A2 machine.
The registration document settles it. Model year and kilowatt figure together identify exactly one of the four.
Where the Weight Sits
The header assembly runs under the engine at the lowest point of the motorcycle. Mass there does the least harm to handling of anywhere on the bike, so 4.37 kg from that position changes the total weight far more than it changes how the Z900 steers.
Two per cent of a 212 kg motorcycle is still two per cent, and it is the largest single reduction available here.
Five Model Years
Kawasaki left the Z900's header design alone from 2020 to 2024 before the 2025 redesign, so one part covers the entire middle generation — including the machines sold as Euro 5 and the later Euro 5+ examples.
Plan the Mapping
Removing the catalytic converter changes what the lambda sensors read, and the standard map was written around a converter being there. A dyno session with the header is money better spent than the same amount on another accessory.
Keep the Original
Kawasaki's header assembly is bulky and awkward to store, but a Z900 offered with its complete original exhaust is a considerably easier sale. Find the shelf space.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
