DescriptionThe whole story▼
A CB500F used for commuting covers ground quickly. Two journeys a day, five days a week, through winter as well as summer, and the mileage between services arrives far sooner than it does on a bike kept for Sundays. Owners of machines like this tend to end up doing the oil themselves, simply because it comes round so often. That makes the filler cap a part you handle regularly rather than once a year. Accossato's FP004 replaces it in CNC-machined aluminium, M20x2.5, in eight anodised colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Honda CB500F, 2013 to 2018
- Thread M20x2.5, the size quoted by Accossato
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Also suits other motorcycles with a filler of the same size
- Colour anodised into the surface, not painted on
- No German ABE on file; offered for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
For a part that gets used often, how the colour is applied matters. On the FP004 it is anodised into the aluminium after the cap has been machined on CNC equipment, so gloves, rags and weather do not take it off the way they eventually would with paint. Eight shades are listed, running from titanium, silver and black to blue, green, orange, red and gold. The thread size is M20x2.5, and Accossato publishes it because that single figure settles the question of fit; alongside its own application list, the maker points out that other motorcycles with the same filler size can use the cap.
A Commuter That Earns Its Service
Winter riding leaves a film of salt and grit on everything, and the engine casings of a CB500F carry their share of it by February. That is the argument for cleaning around the filler every single time before it is opened, not only when the bike looks dirty. Beyond that, the routine is short. Wait until the engine is cold, put the machine in the position the owner's manual describes and read the level there. Check the thread and the sealing face for grit, since a winter's worth of road film gets everywhere. Add oil in small amounts if it is needed, with the grade named in the handbook, and check between each. Turn the FP004 in by hand until it seats, no tools and no effort, which also means it will come out easily at the next change rather than after a fight. Look under the bike after the first ride. Doing this often enough makes it quick, and the frequency is exactly what a commuting machine imposes.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the FP004 for the CB500F from 2013 to 2018. Fit follows the M20x2.5 thread, so machines beyond the list are covered when their filler matches, and at Inter-Pace the same cap is also listed for the DesertX, the Monster 1200 S and the Hypermotard 821. Where an engine cover has been replaced, measure the thread before ordering rather than after the parcel arrives.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no test certificate for the FP004 exist in our records, so the cap is listed for racing and competition only.
