DescriptionThe whole story▼
Young riders often treat the front brake with suspicion. Someone has told them it can throw you over the bars, so they drag the rear, arrive at corners too fast and wonder why the older children pull away. Changing that is usually a coach's first job. The Yamaha YZ65, the small two-stroke Yamaha introduced for the 2018 season, is where many of them learn. The B8262 from Accossato replaces its front brake lever on the 2018 to 2022 models: milled in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a short blade and a joint that lets it fold forward in a fall.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Yamaha YZ65, 2018 to 2022
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade with the three-finger layout Accossato specifies
- Anti-break joint allows the blade to fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or green, base in a dark finish
- No German ABE documented; for youth motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The B8262 is milled, not cast. Accossato takes a solid piece of Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, and cuts the lever from it on CNC machines in Italy, aiming for a part that is strong, light and reliable. It is made in two sections. The dark base locates on the master cylinder pivot and holds the joint, and the blade, in black, blue, gold or green, is the part a young rider's fingers pull. Accossato keeps that brake blade short and designs it for three fingers.
Learning to Trust the Front Brake
Coaches usually begin on flat ground. The rider rides in a straight line at a steady pace, sits slightly back, looks ahead and squeezes the front brake gradually until the bike stops, then repeats the exercise a little faster each time. The point is to feel how much the front brake can do while the bike is upright, and how the fork compresses as the weight moves forward. Once that feels natural, the rider practises braking into a turn and releasing the lever smoothly as the bike leans. On a YZ65 the progression may take a few weekends, and parents often see lap times drop the moment it clicks.
Getting there involves the odd tumble, usually at low speed when the front wheel locks on a loose patch or the lever is grabbed in a panic. The YZ65 is small and falls from a low height, yet a brake lever can still snap on a stone. The B8262's joint lets the blade fold forward instead, so there is a fair chance the session carries on with a working front brake. Before each ride, check that the lever sits where the young rider can reach it comfortably with the hand on the grip; rotating the master cylinder on the bar changes its angle, a one-minute job for a parent.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Yamaha YZ65, Accossato's list gives the B8262 from 2018 to 2022, fitted in place of the original lever on the factory front brake master cylinder. The C7266 folding clutch lever covers the same five years, though only in black or blue; gold and green are exclusive to this brake lever.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the B8262 is, like the YZ65 itself, a part for the motocross track and closed off-road ground.
