Honda has kept the CB650R in the range since 2019, and across that run the bodywork, the instruments and the equipment list have all been reworked more than once. The airbox has not. Every model year takes the same panel in the same housing, which is why one Sprint Filter part number spans the whole period — and why the intake is the one area of this motorcycle still open. Housing and fuelling are fixed; the only variable left in that slot is the medium you put there.
Key Features
- Special non-woven medium, run completely dry — no oil to dose, none to leave on a sensor
- 14 µm filtration at 1,800 l/m²/sec, the specification Sprint Filter aims at dust and distance
- Sits in the standard CB650R housing where the paper panel sat, intake and calibration untouched
- Around twice as much medium at work as a typical performance element offers
- Freed of its load with compressed air and refitted, instead of binned at every interval
- Built to stay with the motorcycle, with Sprint Filter cover running two years from purchase
What 14 microns buy and what they cost
The comparison worth making is with the P08, the same element in Sprint Filter's woven medium: 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec. This one holds back far more and passes far less air — 14 µm, 1,800 l/m²/sec. That is an exchange, not a step up a ladder, and the right answer depends on which of the two you are short of. Careful here: a 650 four is the awkward case — a high-revving inline four reaches for the upper end of the flow figure, so the headroom this medium gives away is more likely to be missed than on the singles and twins that usually take it. If you routinely use the top half of the rev range, or ride track days, the P08 version of this element keeps the better balance.
When the finer medium is the right way round
The other half of the argument is the air itself. Spring passes still carrying winter grit, farm roads through harvest weeks, a commute behind construction traffic — that is air with a fine mineral load, and the light fraction is the part that stays airborne long enough to be drawn in. Against it a 14 µm non-woven works every second the engine runs, while the flow it costs is asked for only near full throttle. A finer medium also fills sooner, so this suits an owner willing to open the airbox and look.
Care and cleaning
The PM201P14 is serviced dry. Put the air line against the clean face and push the load back out the way it arrived; that covers most of the year. When a gritty spell leaves more behind than air will shift, wash it in lukewarm water with a little mild washing-up liquid and rinse until the water runs clear. Then let it dry in open air by itself — no hairdryer, no heat gun, no flame, because heat is what destroys this medium. It goes back dry and bare. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Honda CB650R, model years 2019 to 2026. Two machines are covered in all: this one and the faired CBR650R of the same period, which shares both engine and housing. The Fitment tab lists them.
