Husqvarna sells the Svartpilen 801 and the Vitpilen 801 as two motorcycles, and above the frame they are: bars, seat, tyres and the riding position that follows. Underneath the tank they are one motorcycle. Same airbox, same sealing face, same element — and the same element the KTM 790 Duke has run since 2022. Worth establishing before anyone hunts for the filter that suits a Svartpilen specifically, because the airbox cannot tell which of the three machines it was bolted into. What picks the specification is the road, and here the block-pattern tyres invite a road the standard weave is not the finest possible answer for.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave, washable and reusable, never oiled
- Filtration 80 microns; flow 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Thread diameter from ø 22 microns, which is not the mesh width
- Roughly double the filtering area of other performance filters
- Direct replacement in the production airbox: no modification, no remap
- Two-year warranty from the purchase date
The tyres suggest one thing, the catalogue offers another
That block pattern will take the bike down a gravel track and the chassis will not object. If it does so for a handful of days a year, the P08 remains the right element: it can be washed clean of whatever a dry track puts into it and refitted the same evening. If it happens most weekends, Sprint Filter catalogues a finer medium for this identical housing, and choosing it means giving up a large share of the flow. A finer material holds back more and passes less, both at once — a trade rather than a ladder. Neither element is better in general; one is better for a particular year's riding.
Buying by the box, not by the badge
Three machines, two marques, one part number. The practical consequence: the element is dimensioned around the airbox, so a Svartpilen gets exactly the filter a 790 Duke gets, and demand for the part is underwritten by three model lines instead of one. It also sets the limit of what the element can do. It will not make a standard 801 noticeably stronger, because a panel inside an unmodified housing has no mechanism for that. What it does is stop the restriction climbing steadily between services, since the material is cleaned back towards its starting condition instead of thrown away.
Care and cleaning
Blow the element through with compressed air from the clean side, working outward until nothing further lifts. Water with a mild detergent handles what air cannot, followed by a rinse until the runoff is clear. Drying happens in air and nowhere near heat or flame, and the element goes back only when it is completely dry; there is nothing to re-oil, which removes the one step of filter maintenance that is easy to get wrong. The maintenance sheet for PM283S is filed under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 built between 2024 and 2026. The same element serves the Vitpilen 801 and the 2022-on KTM 790 Duke, three machines in all, and the Fitment tab shows them written out. Order by part number, not model name.
