DescriptionThe whole story▼

The KTM 250 XC-F of 2017–2026 has its own Öhlins part number, and this is it: FFX 2201. Standard forks are packaged and costed first, then damped with whatever room is left.

Key Features

  • Damper stroke 297 mm
  • Supplied with Öhlins spring 02428-47
  • Delivered with a 4,7 N/mm spring, selected for the 250 XC-F
  • Built for the KTM 250 XC-F (2017–2026); fits without modification

What This Means on the 250 XC-F

The 250 cc engine sets how quickly weight transfers, and damping has to be matched to that rather than to a class average. An enduro bike is ridden slowly far more often than quickly, and the damping that matters most is the damping at low shaft speed. Öhlins covers the 10-year production run of this generation with a single part number, which means the mounting and the linkage stayed unchanged across it.

Materials and Manufacture

Service parts stay available for years after a part number leaves the current price list. Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips.

Where This Sits in the Öhlins Line-up

For a rider who wants the fork to feel the same on the last lap as on the first, that is the whole argument. The assembly drops into the standard triple clamps on the models it is listed for. The coil holds its rate as the fork heats and needs no pressure check between motos.

Damping and Adjustment

Spring rate is 4,7 N/mm as delivered, which sets static sag for a rider of typical weight. Installed length comes to 950 mm. Öhlins quotes 297 mm of damper stroke for this fitment. The fitted spring is 02428-47, and Öhlins lists neighbouring rates under their own numbers. Each function has its own adjuster, which is what allows one change to be judged honestly. Preload is adjusted separately from damping, and the two should not be confused.

Fitment and Compatibility

The fitment stated here is the KTM 250 XC-F in its 2017–2026 form, under Öhlins part number FFX 2201. 33 machines in the range take this number, the KTM 250 XC-F among them. Öhlins notes for this application: 08765- spring series *Replaces FFX 1201*
