DescriptionThe whole story▼

City traffic in July is a test few brake components are designed around. An Aprilia RS 660 held at walking pace in a queue has a hot parallel twin under the rider, still air around the wheels and a rear brake being tapped every few seconds to keep the bike creeping rather than lurching. The AGPA42 rear pad covers the RS 660 from 2020 to 2025, and this product is the Sintered mixture, the one Accossato sets up to hold the same level of grip whether it is cold or has been worked, and to keep working on a wet disc.

Key Features

  • Sintered rear pads for the Aprilia RS 660 of 2020 to 2025
  • Accossato: a constant grip level across temperatures, and secure braking in the wet
  • Suits riders who use the bike in traffic and in every season
  • Covers the Extrema over the same years and the Trofeo of 2022
  • Two pads per box, which fills one rear caliper
  • Same AGPA42 shape as the Organic and ceramic versions
  • No German test certificate on record; sold for the track

Construction and Material Quality

Consistency is the whole argument for this mixture. Accossato states that its level of grip stays high and even from cold to hot and that it holds on a wet disc, and a rider notices that promise most at the two ends of the scale rather than in the middle. A rear pad that needs warming gives a vague pedal in the first minutes of a ride; one that fades when the disc is hot gives an unpleasant surprise at the bottom of a descent. The pad is pressed to the AGPA42 shape for the rear caliper of the RS 660 and replaces the original set without modification.

Crawling Through Town on a Hot Day

Slow riding is where the rear brake of a sports bike earns most of its keep. Filtering between stationary cars, the pedal is used against a whiff of throttle to keep the RS 660 steady at the speed of a brisk walk. Pull up on a camber and the same pedal holds the bike while a foot goes down on the high side. Do that for half an hour in summer heat and both the disc and the caliper end up considerably warmer than the ride would suggest, with no airflow to help. What you want from the pads in that situation is simply that nothing changes: the same amount of pedal giving the same amount of retardation at the twentieth traffic light as at the first.

Fitment and Compatibility

The AGPA42 is listed by Accossato for the Aprilia RS 660 from 2020 to 2025, for the RS 660 Extrema and for the 2022 RS 660 Trofeo. It is a direct replacement at the rear. The AGPA177 pad from the same catalogue looks after the front wheel, where the bike uses two calipers and therefore two boxes.

Road Approval

We hold no German ABE for the AGPA42 in any of its mixtures. The pads are accordingly supplied for competition and circuit riding.

Scope of Delivery

A single box holding two Sintered pads for the rear caliper.
