DescriptionThe whole story▼
Anyone who rides a Monster 1200 to the Alps or to the Ligurian coast knows the Italian toll booth. The motorway fans out into a row of narrow lanes, the tarmac in them is worn smooth and often stained with oil, and the rider has to stop, dig out a ticket and a card with gloved hands and set off again while cars wait behind. It is one of the few places where a big naked bike is held at walking pace on ground nobody chose. For the Monster 1200 of 2019 to 2021, Accossato makes the PF049, a black pair of front axle sliders.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2019 to 2021
- Accossato code PF049, supplied as a pair
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Spacers, screws and all other fitting parts in the box, according to Accossato
- Meant to meet the ground first if the bike falls
- For bikes of 2014 to 2018, Accossato lists the PF05 instead
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
PF049 is Accossato's front fork protection for the later Monster 1200: two black protectors, one per side, made of aluminium and plastic. By Accossato's account the kit is complete, with the spacers, the screws and the other parts needed to mount it. Sliders like these are sacrificial by design. If the Monster 1200 goes down at a standstill or slides at low speed, they are intended to meet the road ahead of the fork legs, and that can reduce what the fall costs. Expect them to scrape and, after a heavy blow, to need replacing. The company behind them was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin.
Tickets, Gloves and a Greasy Lane
Toll booths rarely catch riders out through speed. The danger lies in stopping on tarmac that thousands of cars have coated with oil and rubber, in a boot that lands on a smooth painted line, and in fumbling with gloves and wallets while the queue waits. A little preparation makes the stop uneventful. Keep the ticket and a payment card in an outer pocket you can reach without twisting in the seat. Pick a lane marked for cards well before the plaza rather than at the last moment, and roll in slowly with the bike upright. Stop with the front wheel pointing straight ahead, select neutral, and look for clean tarmac where your feet will go down. After paying, put everything away before moving off, even if someone sounds the horn. Then pull away gently and keep the throttle modest until the painted markings beyond the barrier are behind you. With the strong low-rev pull of the Monster 1200, that last point matters more than it would on a small bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato splits the Monster 1200 by year for its front sliders: the PF049 is listed for the bikes of 2019 to 2021, while the earlier Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2018 takes the PF05. The list also names the PP069 rear axle sliders and the TP080 crash pads for this model, but only up to 2017 and 2018 respectively, so neither is listed for the years the PF049 covers. In our shop the PF049 is also linked to the Monster 797, the Monster 821 and the Supersport 939. If you are unsure which year your Monster 1200 is, the registration document will tell you.
Road Approval
Approval papers such as a German ABE are not available to us for the PF049, so these sliders are offered for the racetrack and for competition.
