The dust that matters is not the dust anyone can see. A plume behind a wheel is mostly coarse material, and coarse material drops out of the air quickly; what stays up long enough to be pulled into an intake is the fraction too fine to register as anything but haze. Seven microns is the rating this element carries, and it is aimed at that fraction — the one a machine on loose ground raises and then rides back through.
Key Features
- Special dry nonwoven with a filtration rating of 7 microns
- 560 l/m²/sec of rated flow, where the 80-micron panel for this housing is rated 5,050
- Dry throughout: nothing to oil when new, nothing to re-oil after a wash
- Goes in where the factory element came out, with no modification and no remap
- About double the filtering area of an ordinary performance filter
- Washable and reusable, specified for the machine's service life, two-year warranty
Rated for what cannot be inspected
Particles this small are well below anything the eye resolves, which is why the choice is made from a specification instead of from a look inside the airbox. That cuts both ways: neither what this mat catches nor what a coarser cloth lets past can be judged at the roadside. The rating is the only handle there is. A Hypermotard V2 ridden on unsealed surfaces with any regularity works inside that invisible fraction, and it does not announce itself; a bike kept to sealed roads mostly does not.
Nine times over, and what it buys
Rated flow falls from 5,050 to 560 l/m²/sec, a factor of nine, and that is the honest headline of this medium. It is a trade and not a promotion: finer holds more back and passes less, and one of those is useful only in the conditions it was drawn for while the other is felt on every ride. On a light, stripped machine the instinct is to refuse anything restrictive, and for road use it is right — a 14-micron mat and the standard weave are both catalogued here. The answer changes when unsealed ground is the plan rather than the detour. None of the three, incidentally, makes a standard Hypermotard V2 stronger; a drop-in element has no route to more power.
Care and cleaning
An air line does the ordinary work: applied to the clean side of the PM279T12 and driven outwards, it returns most of what the mat has collected. Deposits air leaves behind come away with lukewarm water and a little mild washing-up liquid, rinsed until nothing further washes out. Then it dries in open, moving air at room temperature — never on a radiator, never with a hot-air gun, never near a flame, because heat is what genuinely destroys this material. Refit it completely dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet sits under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Ducati Hypermotard V2 built in 2026 — the 890 machine, not the 939 and 950 Hypermotards before it, which take a different housing altogether. Two more bikes share this code, the DesertX V2 of 2026 and the Multistrada V2 of 2025–2026: three entries, one element. Confirm the model year in the Fitment tab.
