A washable filter should be judged the way its owner will eventually meet it: not new in the bag, but at its twentieth cleaning, years into a Brutale 800 that has been ridden through everything a road can offer. That is where the two Sprint Filter cloths for this fitment behave least alike, and it is a difference nobody mentions, because the specification sheet only ever describes the day the element was made.
Key Features
- Dry polyester in the racing specification — no oil from new and none added afterwards
- Filtration at 85 µm with a rated throughput of 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Threads from ø 22 microns, with the calibrated gap between them doing the filtering
- Around twice the working area of a typical performance element
- Drops into the series housing: no adapter, no exposed cone, no change to the fuelling
- Built to stay with the motorcycle, backed by two years of warranty
How completely a weave gives its dirt back
Regeneration is never total. Compressed air recovers most of what a cloth has caught and leaves a remainder behind, and the size of that remainder depends on how deep into the structure the dirt went in the first place. A wide aperture releases its load more readily than a fine one; particles that never wedged tightly do not have to be forced out. Over one cleaning the difference is not worth discussing. Over a decade of cleanings it is the reason racing tolerates a coarse medium at all — the element that comes back to its starting restriction most reliably is the one that spent the least effort holding on.
The property that survives, and what it is worth
That advantage is real on a road bike too, and it is the honest part of the case for CM135S F1-85 on a Brutale 800. What it is not is worth two and a half times the price of the standard P08 on its own, because the standard cloth is also washed rather than replaced and also returns to where it started. The rest of the racing element's case rests on flow the naked Brutale rarely calls for, paid for with filtration it gives up every hour it runs. Fitting one changes nothing you can feel; an insert filter does not add power to a standard machine, whichever weave is in it.
Care and cleaning
Air does the routine work: a line held to the clean face of CM135S F1-85, worked outward, until the weave looks even again. A wash belongs to the season rather than the month — tepid water, a drop of gentle washing-up liquid, worked through without scrubbing, then rinsed until the run-off carries no colour. After that the element only needs still or moving air and time. Heat guns, ovens, radiators and flames all destroy polyester, so none of them ever comes near it, and it never goes back into the box damp. Instructions are on the maintenance sheet under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the MV Agusta Brutale 800 of 2013 to 2026, fitted in the standard airbox with nothing altered around it. The same element covers eleven machines from MV's triple range, faired and naked, from the 675s of 2011 through to the current 800s. The complete list sits in the Fitment tab.
