The name survived the 2017 redesign; the airbox did not. That makes this the one model in the range where ordering by badge rather than by year is a genuine risk, and it is the reason this element has a page of its own. The first-generation bike, built from 2013 to 2016, takes the Sprint Filter PM145S: a dry polyester element for the original box, sold as a replacement for the paper panel rather than as a modification to the intake.

Key Features

Specific to the 2013–2016 airbox; the later 390 Duke takes a different element entirely

One layer of woven polyester, run dry at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec

Around twice the filtering surface of a typical performance element

No oil at any point in its life, so nothing can migrate into the intake tract

93.13 % retention of 100-micron particles against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton

Cleaned and reused indefinitely, with two years of warranty from the purchase date

Order by year, not by badge

Model names outlive the hardware they were attached to, and air filters are unusually unforgiving about it. An element a few millimetres out does not fit badly, it fails to seal, and an airbox that does not seal is worse than a dirty filter. Nine machines share this part — the 125, 200, 250 and 390 Duke of this generation, along with the RC models built beside them — and every one of them is defined by a span of years as much as by a name. The Fitment tab lists all nine with theirs.

What it changes once it is in

Less than the marketing around performance filters implies, and more than nothing. It will not make a standard 390 Duke noticeably quicker; a drop-in element inside an unmodified airbox has never done that on any road bike. What it does is start lower and stay lower. A paper panel is a declining asset from the moment it is fitted, and its decline is invisible. Polyester that gets washed returns to a known condition each time, so the way the engine breathes stops being a function of how long ago the last service was.

Care and cleaning

Air from the clean face outward, so the dirt leaves by the route it came in. If that is not enough, warm water with a mild detergent and gentle agitation will finish the job; rinse until the water runs clean and let it dry in air, however long that takes. No flame, no heater, no hot-air gun, and nothing applied to the weave afterwards. The Downloads tab carries the maintenance sheet for the PM145S.

Fitment & Compatibility

The P08 for the KTM 390 Duke, 2013 to 2016. Later 390 Dukes are not covered here — a 2017 or newer machine takes a different Sprint Filter part number, so check the year before you order.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/PM145S_bc7fec56-a179-4c98-b394-4f39be068dde.png?v=1787147018
