Six kilos out of a motorcycle that carries 10,7 in its standard exhaust alone. Spark's high-mount racing kit puts a Grid-O titanium silencer behind stainless manifolds and a stainless fitting, with nothing between them that has to pass an emissions test.
Key Features
- Racing full system for the Honda CB650R and CBR650R.
- AISI 304 stainless manifolds and stainless fitting.
- Grid-O silencer in titanium, high mounting.
- 4,8 kg against 10,7 kg for the standard system.
- No catalyst.
- Racing part, not approved for road use.
Where the Six Kilos Are
The standard exhaust on a 650R is four steel primaries, a collector, a catalytic section in its housing, and a steel silencer. Spark replaces the whole run with stainless manifolds and a titanium can, and the catalyst does not come back.
4,8 kg against 10,7 is a 5,9 kg saving — more than half the assembly. On a motorcycle in this class that is a meaningful fraction of what a rider can realistically remove.
Which Article Is Which
Four systems, one platform, and the names do not make the differences obvious. GHO8838TOM is the approved one, low-mounted, with a catalyst box. GHO8839T is the racing Konix Evo. This is the racing Grid-O. GHO8841T is the same idea with a titanium link pipe instead of a stainless one.
The weights run 6,5 · 5,7 · 4,8 · 3,7 kg in that order, against 10,7 standard. Price does not follow weight: the lightest is not the dearest, and the approved one is.
The Manifolds Are Shared
All four systems use the same AISI 304 stainless manifolds, with the collector diameters and 4-2-1 conic sections Spark developed for this engine. What changes across the range is everything behind them.
Stainless Fitting, Not a Catalyst Box
The difference between this article and the approved GHO8838TOM is what sits between the manifolds and the silencer. There, a box containing Spark's own catalyst. Here, a plain stainless fitting.
That is 1,7 kg of the difference between the two kits, and all of the difference in their legal status.
The Grid-O
The Grid-O is the round Spark silencer with the mesh outlet cap, in full titanium with visible TIG welds. It is the same design that was on the 2020 Moto2 world championship-winning machine.
Its large diameter is deliberate on a four-cylinder — Spark uses it where the aim is to give the four-cylinder sound room rather than to shorten it.
High Mounting
The silencer sits high on the flank rather than low under the engine. On a naked CB650R that puts it in the eyeline; on a faired CBR650R it changes the profile of the tail.
It also clears the ground better, which matters on a bike that spends its weekends being leaned over.
Fitment & Compatibility
Honda CB650R Neo Sports Café and CBR650R, 2019 to 2025. The Euro5 approved kit is GHO8838TOM. The Konix Evo racing version is GHO8839T; the lightest racing system, with a titanium TIG-welded pipe, is GHO8841T at 3,7 kg.
Road Approval
None. Spark lists this system as not approved. Closed course use only.
