Not for the Road
The MT-07 is one of the most-used commuter motorcycles in Europe and ABS earns its place on it every wet morning. This is a modification for machines that never see traffic.
Where It Actually Gets Fitted
Supermoto conversions, flat-track builds and stunt bikes, where a locked rear wheel is the point rather than the problem. The MT-07 is the default donor for all three.
A Popular Donor
Yamaha has sold enormous numbers of these and the aftermarket has responded accordingly. Few motorcycles are modified as widely or as inventively.
The Dashboard
Remove the module and the ABS lamp stays lit permanently. This unit closes the loop so the display behaves as though nothing was taken out.
Seventy-Three Horsepower
From the 689 cc CP2 twin with its 270 degree crank. Yamaha built an engine with far more character than the class needed and then put it in five different motorcycles.
A Hundred and Eighty-Two Kilograms
Wet. The MT-07 has always been light for its class and that, rather than the power, is why it handles the way it does.
Eleven Model Years
The fitment runs from 2014 to 2024 across two generations. Yamaha changed the styling twice and left the braking architecture alone.
Nothing Spliced
The original connector is used. On a bike that will very likely be sold on, a loom that has never been cut is worth having.
A Steel Frame
Yamaha kept the MT-07 conventional and cheap to build, which is why it costs what it does and why it is so straightforward to modify.
The Bike That Rescued a Class
Middleweight nakeds had become expensive and complicated when Yamaha released the MT-07 at a price nobody expected. It sold in enormous numbers, forced every rival to respond, and it remains the default recommendation for a first big motorcycle.
