DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 690 Duke R is the sharper edition of KTM's single-cylinder naked bike, and Accossato lists it for 2013 to 2017. It shares the LC4 engine with the standard 690 Duke but was built with a keener rider in mind, and it is at home on a circuit. One place where a Duke R fits in particularly well is the race class that some clubs still run for single-cylinder machines. For this bike Accossato offers the FC101, a quick-release tank cap machined from aluminium and closed by a pawl whose pin you pick from six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the KTM 690 Duke R, 2013 to 2017
- Machined from solid aluminium on CNC equipment
- Pawl that closes quickly for short refuelling stops
- Pin available in gold, green, blue, red, black or silver
- Spare pawl sold on its own
- Newly designed, described by Accossato as robust and durable
- No German ABE on record; for closed circuits and racing
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the FC101 out of aluminium and uses no other material for the body, and it says the cap will stand up to hard use for a long time. The design is a recent one. On the Duke R, the working part is the quick-closing pawl: release it and the filler opens, pour, and moments later the tank is shut again. The pin colour is your choice at the time of ordering. If the pawl is ever bent or broken, Accossato can supply a new one by itself, so the body of the cap stays where it is.
Racing with the Singles
Single-cylinder racing has a long tradition, and a number of clubs and national series still keep a class for it, where big singles from supermoto, enduro and naked bikes line up on one grid. A 690 Duke R belongs naturally in that company. Racing a single has its own rhythm: the bikes are light and agile, corner speed decides a great deal and the gaps between riders are small. Fuel is part of that rhythm. Top up in the paddock on race morning rather than in a rush before the call to the grid, with the engine off and the bike upright. Close the pawl, press the cap down with the flat of your hand and look at it from the side to see that it sits level. At scrutineering the inspector may well look at the filler as well as at the brakes and the chain. After each race, when the bike is back under the awning, check the cap again before you move on to tyres or gearing. On a single, a few calm minutes between races are part of a clean weekend.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FC101 for the Duke 690 R from 2013 to 2017. The standard 690 Duke is served by the same cap, and so, among bikes from other makers, are the Aprilia RS 660 and the MV Agusta F3 675. Before ordering, match the model year of your Duke R against Accossato's list.
Road Approval
Accossato documents neither a German ABE nor a parts certificate for this cap, so it belongs on closed circuits and in racing. For public roads, the Duke R should carry its standard cap, which normally locks with the ignition key.
