DescriptionThe whole story▼
A phone or sat-nav on the handlebar has become normal equipment, and on a naked bike such as the Z1000 R Edition there is not much bar to put it on. Mounts often end up close to the clutch perch, where they crowd the hand or the lever. The Accossato ESK828 is a clutch lever for the Z1000 R Edition, listed from 2017 to 2023, whose span can be adjusted to work around whatever else shares the left side of the bar. It is CNC-machined from aluminium, anodised and fitted at the original clutch mounting.
Key Features
- Replaces the clutch lever of the Kawasaki Z1000 R Edition, 2017 to 2023
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Span adjustable, adjuster close to the pivot
- Long blade for a lighter pull in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade, approximately 138 mm, in every colour; short blade in five
- Anodised aluminium, black hub, coloured blade
- Fixed design without any folding mechanism
Construction and Material Quality
Precision at the pivot separates a lever that stays tight from one that develops a rattle. The ESK828 is milled on CNC machines, which lets the bores for the pivot and the span adjuster be cut to close tolerances. After machining comes anodising: the hub is black on every lever, so the area next to the switchgear stays unobtrusive, and the blade shows the colour you choose. The lever is fixed. Apart from the pivot at the mounting, there is no joint in it.
A Phone Mount Next to the Lever
Handlebar mounts come in many shapes, and the ones that clamp near the left grip can cause three problems. They can sit where the hand wants to rest, pushing the fingers into an awkward angle on the lever. They can limit how far the lever travels, so the clutch never quite frees completely. And at full steering lock, a phone or its cradle can end up against the tank. Before a first ride with a new mount on the Z1000 R Edition, sit on the bike, pull the ESK828 fully to the grip and turn the bars from lock to lock: nothing should touch. Then set the span in the gloves you wear, so the fingers reach the blade without having to work around the mount. A mount placed inboard of the clutch perch, towards the middle of the bar, usually leaves the hand free. If you prefer a lighter pull on the Z1000 R Edition, the long blade adds leverage without changing any of this.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Z1000 R Edition, the ESK828 is recorded in Accossato's list as Z 1000 R EDITION, with the model years 2017 to 2023. It is fitted at the bike's original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. For the brake side, Accossato lists the EDF088 under the Z1000 R name, for 2017 to 2023. As with any lever, compare your original part with the product photos before ordering if you are unsure which version your bike is.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on file for this clutch lever. It is sold for use on closed tracks.
