The figure that names this element, fourteen microns, invites a picture of an extremely fine gauze, and that picture is wrong. The CM251P14 is not the standard road filter woven tighter. It is a different material arrived at by a different process: a dry non-woven mat, fibres laid down in depth instead of threads crossed in a single plane. On the 2020 Brivido R 500 that distinction decides almost everything about how the part behaves once it starts collecting, and it is worth understanding before the airbox is opened.
Key Features
- Dry specialist non-woven rated at 14 microns, the finest medium catalogued for this motorcycle
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the woven standard element in the same housing
- Fibres arranged in thickness rather than in a mesh, so the load is stored through the material
- Roughly twice the filtering area of other performance elements, pleated to fit the series airbox
- Takes the place of the paper panel with nothing cut, nothing rerouted and no remap
- Regenerated with compressed air instead of replaced; two years of warranty from date of purchase
A mat, not a mesh
A woven filter presents one surface to the air. Particles either pass through an opening or stop on it, and once enough have stopped, the openings around them begin to close. A non-woven works down through its own thickness: the coarse fraction is caught near the face, the finer fraction further in, and the material behind the first millimetre is still working long after the face has taken on colour. That is how 14 microns is reached without shrinking any mesh to 14 microns.
What the fine end costs
Flow, and a great deal of it. The same housing takes an element rated at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec; this one is rated at 1,800 through a given area of material, roughly a third as much. Finer means more retained and less through, every time — a trade, not a rank, and the coarser element is not the inferior one. Nor is any of this a power part. Dropping an element into a standard Brivido R will not make it noticeably quicker. What it offers is a lower intake resistance that stays where it started across the interval, and a component that is cleaned rather than bought again.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the primary tool, and direction is the whole technique: work from the clean side outward, so the load leaves the mat by the route it entered rather than being driven deeper in. Where dust has been damp and set hard, lukewarm water with a mild detergent releases it. Drying then happens in moving air at room temperature and takes as long as it takes; a heat gun, a radiator or an open flame finishes the element in seconds. It goes back in dry and untreated — nothing is ever sprayed onto the CM251P14. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Voge Brivido R 500 of 2020, which holds its own line in the fitment list; the same part number carries the later Brivido R years as well. Four entries share the CM251P14 in total. The complete list, with years, is in the Fitment tab.
