Two Hundred and Fifty Kilograms Off Road
The R takes a very large adventure bike and gives it a 21 inch front wheel, longer WP suspension and off-road modes. Riding one on gravel is genuinely demanding and genuinely rewarding, and it requires the controls to be exactly where the rider expects.
Hand Guards Force Changes
Fitting guards frequently means moving or replacing the lever assembly, and that can alter the clamp bolt spacing. On an Adventure R, which almost always runs guards, the stepped geometry is more common than on the road-biased S.
The Observation That Matters
One clamp bolt forward of the other means offset. It takes a moment at the bar and it decides between two part numbers that are otherwise identical in every respect.
Standing Over Rough Ground
The R's ergonomics assume the pegs, which brings the hand to the bar from above rather than behind. Controls laid out for a seated rider sit at a different angle entirely, and physical separation is what makes them findable.
Grit First, Water Second
Fine dust works into a contact and remains there, which makes it harder on switchgear than rain. Sealed elements inside a one-piece milled body give it no route in across a long dusty route.
Repeated Falls
A loaded Super Adventure R goes over at walking pace more than once on a serious trip. The bar end lands first every time, and milled Ergal deforms where a clipped shell splits and lets the switch rotate.
Two Anodised Finishes
Black and orange, through the surface. It dulls with contact rather than flaking, which on a working motorcycle is the more useful behaviour.
