The Offset Arrangement
Staggered bolts for one of the two clamps. On an S, whose brake assembly is more likely to have been changed, it is worth establishing rather than assuming.
Grit Does Not Evaporate
Water leaves a moulded joint on a warm day. Road dust that has worked past a clipped cover stays against a terminal indefinitely, and it is the more permanent of the two problems.
Marginally Heavier
Billet aluminium against injection-moulded plastic. The difference is small and it goes the wrong way, which is worth stating rather than glossing over.
Elements Sealed to Specification
Beyond what a road bike asks for. An S covers real distance in weather that keeps other motorcycles garaged, and the contacts are specified for that rather than for fair weather.
Why This Part Can Exist
An injection tool needs volume that a single model year cannot provide. A machining programme is a file that costs nothing to change, which is the entire reason for small-run components.
What Meets the Tarmac
The bar end, then the switch block. A moulded shell splits at its clip line and a milled one takes a mark, which decides whether the bike is rideable home.
Suspension Rather Than Power
The S adds Öhlins at both ends and a quickshifter and leaves the engine alone. On a bike built for mountain roads that is unambiguously the right priority.
One Engine, Four Models
The 937 cc Testastretta appeared in the Hypermotard, the Multistrada 950 and the Monster 937 as well as here. Ducati built one good middleweight twin and used it everywhere.
Kept Rather Than Traded
Owners of these hold onto them for years, which has left used examples scarce for a motorcycle that never sold in volume. It is the clearest verdict a bike receives.
