The Aligned Pattern
Both mounting bolts on one axis, matching one of the two clamps. An S has frequently had its brake assembly changed, which makes the check worth thirty seconds.
Sold Only Complete
Ducati lists the block, never the contact inside it. That is the arithmetic that makes a machined alternative reasonable rather than extravagant.
An Electrolytic Surface
Anodising converts the top layer of the aluminium chemically. Nothing sits on top of the metal, so nothing can be chipped away by a glove, a boot or a fallen bike.
Oxidation Over a Winter
A terminal that has been wet develops a resistive film. The function works, then works sometimes, then does not, and the whole process takes the better part of a year.
Twenty Minutes, Fully Reversible
Nothing spliced anywhere in the harness. The standard block goes back on before a sale in the same time it took to remove, leaving no evidence of the change.
Repeatability
A cut component is dimensionally identical from the first unit to the last. Moulded ones drift as the tool ages, which is why fitment varies between examples of the same part.
Brembo M50
Ducati specified a superbike caliper on a motorcycle with upright bars. The braking capacity comfortably exceeds what the chassis can put down, which is the right margin to have.
Eleven Degrees of Overlap
Reducing the valve timing is what made a racing engine tolerable below three thousand revs. Without it the 1198 cc Testastretta would be undriveable in traffic.

Ducati offered several of each on the 1200. It is a rare piece of accommodation from this company and part of why the model has held such a broad range of owners.
