The Higher Specification
Better suspension, a sharper riding position and more electronics than the standard 990. KTM aims the R at owners who will use a circuit.
Which Is Why This Exists
A bike bought for track days loses its stand in the first evening of preparation. The switch is mounted on the bracket and cannot stay.
A Chain, Not a Switch
Sidestand, clutch and gear position are read together. Removing one element breaks the whole chain and the engine cuts in gear.
Presented Correctly
This unit supplies the state the controller expects, so nothing appears on the display and nothing is logged in the background.
The LC8c Grown Up
KTM enlarged the parallel twin rather than starting again, and gained torque without losing the character that made the 890 worth owning.
Very New
These motorcycles are barely out of the showroom. Anything fitted to one should come off again without trace, and this does.

With a stand still fitted, the loop prevents a mistake that is easier to make than most riders admit.
Suspension and Brakes
The R gains WP Apex units with more adjustment and a stronger front brake package. KTM has always understood that a middleweight naked is limited by its chassis long before its engine, and the R is where that understanding is spent.
