The JP ES 011 presents the Streetfighter V2 955's controller with a retracted stand at all times, so the interlock has something to read once the switch and bracket have gone.

A Single-Sided Swingarm
Carried over from the Panigale V2, purely because it looks right. Ducati has always understood that this matters to its buyers.
Keep It on a Road Bike
With a stand still fitted the interlock is doing real work. Disabling it turns an easy mistake into a locked rear wheel at a junction.
Corrosion Is Gradual
Contact resistance climbs slowly as the plating degrades, so the engine begins cutting out under conditions that seem random.
Storage Between Seasons
A motorcycle laid up with a damp connector comes out of storage with a fault it did not have in October. It is a common spring complaint.

Photographing the bracket before anything comes off makes the eventual refit quicker and settles arguments about which fastener went where.

What the Side Stand Switch Does
It tells the controller whether the stand is down, and the controller uses that to cut the engine if a gear is selected with the stand still deployed. It is a genuinely useful safety interlock on a road motorcycle and the reason it exists is a very common and expensive mistake.
What Comes Off With the Stand
The stand itself, the bracket that carries it, the spring and the switch with its wiring. On most models that is close to a kilogramme in a place where the mass is genuinely unhelpful, which is the reason racing machines have never carried any of it.
