The JP CJP 044B carries no map at all when it arrives on the S1000 XR: every cell reads zero and the motorcycle runs exactly as the factory intended until somebody changes that.

A Four in a Tall Chassis
The XR carries the sports engine at touring speeds for long distances, which means most of its life is spent at small throttle openings in the middle of the rev range.
Small Steps
Two or three percent at a time in the cells being worked on. Large jumps produce an engine that surges between operating points and tell the mapper nothing useful.
Fuel Grade
A map developed on one octane rating is not automatically right on another. Owners who run race fuel at weekends and pump petrol during the week should hold two maps.
The Cells That Matter
Cruise, small openings and the first part of the throttle. Most riding happens there and most of the improvement anybody feels comes from getting those right.
Load Is Not Throttle
On most systems the load axis is derived from manifold pressure or from throttle angle and engine speed together. Understanding which one applies to the motorcycle matters before the first change.
The Empty Map
Every cell at zero, the motorcycle running its factory mixture, and nothing changed until the owner decides otherwise. It is the safest starting condition any tuning product can offer.
Documentation
There is a manual and it is short. Most of the learning happens in the software with a motorcycle in front of you rather than in a document.
Who Should Not
Anybody hoping to plug something in and feel a difference on the way home. That expectation belongs to the other unit and it is met there.
The Sale Afterwards
A motorcycle offered with this unit should come with its map file and a note of the configuration it was written for. Without those the next owner inherits a blank sheet and a bill.
