The system is part of the motorcycle's approval where it is fitted, and removing it moves the machine into competition use in those markets.
Machined Rather Than Cast
Turned from billet with the sealing face cut in one operation, which is why it seals on a ring alone rather than needing compound.
What Is Gained
One fewer perishable component, a tidier top end and an exhaust port that cannot admit anything. No power and no consumption change.
On a V-Twin
The two heads sit at ninety degrees, which means the rear one is considerably harder to reach. Plan the evening around that rather than around the part.
The Cover Is Not the Circuit
The dashboard warning comes from the solenoid, and this part does nothing about it. That surprises a fair number of owners every year.
Torque, and Why It Matters Here
The fasteners thread into an aluminium cylinder head and Ducati specifies a low figure for good reason. Exceeding it is the commonest way a twenty-minute job becomes a thread repair and a considerably longer weekend, and it is entirely avoidable by looking the number up once.
What the Ports Look Like Underneath
Two small drillings into the exhaust side of the head, machined flat around their edges so a seal can work. There is nothing delicate about them and nothing that needs protecting, but they should be wiped clean before the cover goes on, because a piece of grit under an O-ring is the one way this job leaks.
