The JP ES 041 closes the secondary air ports in the Multistrada 1200 S's cylinder head with a machined aluminium cover in place of the moulded reed housing Ducati fitted.

Keyless Ignition
Fitted to the S, which on a bike that gets stopped at borders and petrol stations across a continent is worth more than it sounds.
Reversible
The standard housing refits on its own fasteners with no replacement seals required, so the engine returns to specification whenever it needs to.
Before Any Mapping
Air entering the exhaust after combustion moves the readings, and every fuelling decision taken from those readings inherits the movement.
A Repair With a Side Effect
On any Ducati past its first decade the reed housing has limited life left. Replacing it with aluminium removes a job that was coming.
Where the Soot Shows
Inside the airbox and on the filter, downstream of a cracked reed. It is the cheapest diagnosis available on the whole system.
Access on a V-Twin
The rear cylinder sits under the tank and behind the frame, which makes reaching anything on it a matter of patience. Plan the evening around the disassembly rather than around the twenty minutes of actual work.
Why Aluminium Instead
There is nothing inside a machined cover to age, nothing to inspect and nothing to replace for the life of the engine. It seals on an O-ring in a turned groove against the head's own finished face, which means it can come off and go back on repeatedly without damaging anything underneath it.
Not a Route to More Power
The system operates on gas that has already done its work, downstream of the valves, and nothing about removing it changes what happens inside the cylinder. Anybody expecting a difference at the throttle has been sold something other than the truth.
