The SP's Öhlins
Honda fitted semi-active forks to the SP versions of the final old-shape Fireblade. Replacing them with conventional units is common on bikes prepared for racing.
What the Controller Loses
Position and damping feedback from the fork. Without it a fault appears at the first start and remains on the display for as long as the bike is used.
Presenting a Plausible Answer
The emulator supplies the signals the ECU expects rather than switching the monitoring off. That distinction is why the dashboard stays clean instead of merely being ignored.
An Underrated Generation
The 2017 Fireblade brought a lighter chassis, an inertial platform and a titanium tank on the SP. It was a serious motorcycle overshadowed two years later by the RR-R.
A Titanium Fuel Tank
Over a kilogram saved at the highest point on the bike. It is the sort of detail that explains what Honda was aiming at with the SP.
Why a Race Team Reverts
Semi-active suspension is excellent at coping with the unknown. A circuit is known, and an engineer would rather fix the damping and remove a variable.
Nothing Cut
Honda's own connector throughout. The original forks and loom go back without any evidence of the intervening period.
Three Model Years
The fitment covers 2017 to 2019, the whole run of the final old-shape Fireblade. Earlier bikes never had electronic suspension to emulate.
Rarely Fitted Alone
It arrives with cartridges, springs and a setup session. On its own it does nothing at all, which is worth knowing before ordering.
Twenty Years of the Name
By 2017 the Fireblade had been in production for a quarter of a century, and Honda marked it with an SP2 built in limited numbers for homologation. The generation is the last of the old lineage and its values have behaved accordingly since the RR-R arrived.
