Two Hundred and Five Kilograms
Dry, which is not light and is far less than the appearance suggests. Triumph worked hard on the weight of this one.
Replaced by the X
Triumph simplified the range in 2024, and the XC's combination of travel and equipment is no longer available new. Used examples are correspondingly sought after.
Nothing Cut
Triumph's own bracket holes and connectors throughout. The conversion reverses in an evening with no replacement parts required.
A Vent That Faces Down
Routed away from the exhaust and clear of the swingarm, terminating properly. It takes a minute to do correctly and prevents years of small annoyances.
Chafing on a Trail Bike
Lines running behind the engine rub against brackets on rough ground, and a split vapour hose is a fuel smell and a fault code in an awkward place.
The Fault That Follows an Unplugged Valve
The controller tests the purge solenoid electrically and stores a code the moment it finds nothing. That code is visible to any dealer with a reader and it will not clear until the circuit is answered properly.
Vapour Volume Scales With the Tank
A twenty litre tank in the sun produces considerably more than a fifteen litre one, and the canister is the same size on both. The touring models therefore reach saturation sooner and suffer the symptoms more often.
Parked Outside All Summer
A motorcycle standing in direct sun generates the most vapour it ever will, day after day, with no engine running to clear the bed. It is the fastest way to reach saturation short of overfilling.
Written in the Service Book
One line saying what was removed and when. It prevents somebody else diagnosing a system the motorcycle no longer has.
