CY20310 sits under the R9's race tail and carries what the rider puts through it. Without it the seat unit is a shell fixed at its edges; with it, load reaches the subframe across a face instead of through a handful of fasteners.

The Failure It Prevents
Composite tails do not usually fail suddenly. They fail slowly, from a fastener hole outwards, over a season of a rider braking hard against the rear edge. The load path is the reason: carbon is excellent in tension and compression and poor at accepting a concentrated point load, so every kilo arriving at a bolt is a stress riser in a brittle laminate. Spreading the same load over a surface removes the riser, which is why this component is worth more to the life of the tail than its price suggests.
Order of Assembly
The support goes in with the seat unit and the brackets, before the foam is fitted and before the bike comes off the stand. Once the foam is on, the fixings are underneath it. Once the bike is on its wheels, the subframe has taken its load and anything adjusted afterwards is being adjusted against that load rather than into a free position. Neither mistake is fatal, and both cost an hour that did not need spending.
