DescriptionThe whole story▼
Moto Morini built the Granpasso 1200 as a tall, wide-barred traveller around its own large V-twin, and owners tend to take it where the tarmac gets thin: over passes, along farm tracks, into lay-bys with a view. The LV012 is Accossato's folding, reach-adjustable brake lever for this bike, listed for the Granpasso 1200 from 2008 to 2018. It replaces the stock lever on the original front master cylinder and is split into a black base and a coloured blade, joined so that the blade can swing aside when something strikes it.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the Moto Morini Granpasso 1200, 2008 to 2018
- Mounts on the original front brake master cylinder
- Blade hinged to the base, able to fold away when the lever is hit
- Distance to the grip set at the black base
- Blade with or without the RST lightening cut-out
- Seven anodised blade colours: black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver
- CNC-machined aluminium in one standard length
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato began in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a builder of competition motorcycles, so an Italian lever on an Italian V-twin has a certain logic. The LV012 comes in two pieces, each CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised afterwards. The black piece is the base: it sits on the pivot of the original master cylinder and houses the reach adjuster. The second piece is the blade, finished in your colour and connected to the base by a joint, so the part your fingers touch can move independently of the part that works the piston. The RST version has an opening in the blade that removes a little material; the NRST blade stays solid.
A Foot Down on Loose Gravel
Most drops on a big traveller happen at walking pace or below. You pull into a gravel lay-by below a pass to look at the view, the bike rolls to a stop, and your right boot lands on a stone that moves. A Granpasso 1200 is tall, and once its weight leans beyond a certain angle there is little a leg can do about it. The bike settles onto its right side, and the brake lever is among the first parts to reach the ground. A conventional lever often bends or snaps in that moment, hours away from the nearest dealer. The hinged blade of the LV012 has another option: it can fold back with the impact instead of meeting it head-on, which reduces the chance of breaking it. It is a possibility, not a promise, since ground and angle are never the same twice. On a bike that is ridden to remote places, though, a brake lever that may come through a stationary drop can decide how the rest of the day goes. Many experienced riders also make a habit of stopping on loose ground with the left foot down and the right foot resting on the brake pedal.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the LV012 for the Granpasso 1200 from 2008 to 2018 under one entry, Granpasso 1200, and it fits the original front brake master cylinder. The same bike has two more folding levers in the range: the LV014 for the clutch side and the RA001, a brake lever with a 90-degree remote adjuster intended for racing. If you are unsure which lever your Granpasso carries today, compare it with our photos before ordering.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the LV012, so we supply it for track use only.
