DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Monster 1200 is at its most vulnerable when it is barely moving. Ducati's big naked bike, with its liquid-cooled Testastretta twin and wide handlebar, feels planted at speed, yet one misjudged footing at a junction can lay it on its right-hand side, front brake lever first. The Accossato LV013 replaces that lever on the Monster 1200 of 2016 to 2020 with a folding, reach-adjustable design machined from aluminium.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2016 to 2020
- Replaces the stock lever on the original brake master cylinder
- Hinged blade that can fold away when it strikes the ground
- Distance to the grip set with the adjuster in the black base
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised in two parts
- Blade in black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver or titanium
- With or without the RST lightening cut-out
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Two machined parts make up the LV013. The base is anodised black; it sits at the pivot and carries the reach adjuster. Joined to it by a hinge is the blade, which comes in the colour you order. Titanium is on that list too, as the name of an anodised shade rather than a different metal. Both parts are cut from aluminium on CNC machines. You can also decide whether the blade has Accossato's RST cut-out, an opening that removes a little material, or stays solid in the NRST version.
When the Road Falls Away to the Right
Tip-overs happen below walking pace, and a drop to the right has a pattern of its own. You roll up to a junction on a cambered country lane, the tarmac drops towards the gutter on the right, and your right foot, which a moment ago was on the rear brake pedal, reaches for ground that is lower than expected. Once a big twin like the Monster 1200 leans past a certain point at a standstill, holding it up becomes a matter of luck. It settles onto the bar end, the mirror and the brake lever.
A lever without a joint takes that load at its tip and often bends or breaks there. On the LV013 the coloured blade is hinged to its base, so it can swing out of the way instead. That does not make it immune, and a harder impact can still damage it, but it improves the odds that you pick the bike up, check the lever and ride on with a working front brake. The habit that prevents many of these falls costs nothing: read the road surface before you stop, and put down the foot on the higher side.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the LV013 for the Monster 1200 from 2016 to 2020, where it replaces the lever on the original brake master cylinder. For the left side of the same bike there is the LV015 folding clutch lever, and riders who take their Monster 1200 on track can choose the RA002, a brake lever with a remote adjuster, listed for the same years. The Monster 1200 R and 1200 S are sold as separate products.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for this lever; it is sold for use on closed circuits.
