DescriptionThe whole story▼
A VT750 Shadow without a windscreen puts the rider right in the airflow, and at motorway speed the wind pushes steadily against the chest. The natural reaction is to hold on at the bars, which stiffens the arms and makes every clutch pull a little clumsier. The ESH250 from Accossato is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever listed for the 2020 and 2021 model years of the Shadow, in its Black Spirit version, and its adjustable reach lets the left hand do its work without loosening its hold.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Honda VT750 Shadow, Black Spirit version, 2020 to 2021
- Replaces the lever at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange for the lightest pull
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; black blade to keep the dark look
- Machined aluminium, anodised
- Rigid blade, black hub
Construction and Material Quality
The ESH250 is CNC-machined from solid aluminium, then anodised. Its black hub carries the pivot and the reach adjuster; its blade comes in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. On a Black Spirit, whose styling leans towards dark finishes, a black lever keeps the look intact, while a coloured blade adds one deliberate accent. The blade is rigid and fixed, with no folding joint, so the clutch takes up drive at the same point on the lever every time.
Wind Without a Screen
In a strong headwind, the body wants to hang on by the arms, and tense arms pass every gust into the steering and make fine control harder. The better technique is to hold yourself in place with the legs and the core, lean slightly into the wind and keep the arms relaxed, with the elbows a little bent. That works on a cruiser too, although the upright seating position gives the legs less to brace against than on a sports bike, so the hands still carry some of the load. When it is time to change gear, the fingers should be able to reach the lever without the grip loosening. If the blade sits too far away, the hand opens, the arms tense again and the change turns into a lurch. Bring the ESH250 in so your fingers meet the blade with the hand still wrapped around the grip, and pull with the fingers alone. The long blade gives more leverage for a lighter pull, and the standard blade keeps the feel of the original. On the Shadow, a small screen is the other answer, but that is a matter of taste.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESH250 for the Shadow in 2020 and 2021, naming the Black Spirit version. For Shadows from 2010 to 2019, the ESH626 is the listed clutch lever. Accossato's EDF018 brake lever covers 2010 to 2019; for the 2020 and 2021 bikes the list shows no brake lever, so this clutch lever is sold on its own.
Road Approval
The ESH250 is sold for the track, because a German ABE has not been documented for it.
