A great many 890 Adventures are bought second-hand, and a great many are sold on again. That is not a criticism of the motorcycle — it is what happens to a capable, expensive adventure bike that people buy for a particular trip and then move along. It does mean that most 890s spend their lives being assessed by someone who did not own them for the first years, and the assessment is largely done on paper.

What a service history can and cannot show

A buyer can see the tyres, the sprockets, the state of the fork seals and the stamps in the book. What no inspection reveals is the condition of the intake tract, because you would have to take the seat and the airbox lid off to look, and almost nobody does that on a test ride. So the air filter becomes a matter of trust: either there is a receipt for a new one, or there is a story. With the P08 PM155S there is a third answer, and it is a better one — the element is washable and reusable, so a clean filter is not evidence of a recent purchase but of a bike that has been looked after.

The part that does not depreciate

There is a practical corollary. Because the P08 is designed to last the life of the motorcycle rather than an interval, it goes with the bike when the bike is sold. A buyer inherits a filter that will be cleaned rather than replaced for as long as they own it, and the 889 cc twin gets an intake restriction that is restored with compressed air instead of one that has been climbing quietly since whenever the last paper element went in.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame.
