A Cap That Is Also a Structural Part

Spark describes the milled cap as technical as much as decorative, and the perforation is the reason: the holes take weight out of a component that hangs at the far end of the silencer, where every gram counts double for how the assembly resists vibration.

The differing radii inside and outside the cap are cut for the same reason a jeweller cuts facets — to give the light somewhere to go. On a red anodised surface that reads more strongly than it does on black.

Choosing the Colour

The three versions of this slip-on are the same silencer with three different caps. Carbon is GDU0839TOMC at 1.188 euro and 2,1 kg. Black anodised is GDU0839TOMN and red is this one, both at 1.261 euro and 2,2 kg.

Nothing else separates them. Identical sound, identical two horsepower, identical approval. The decision is made standing next to the motorcycle, not on paper.

What Stays Standard

This is a slip-on, so the catalytic converter and the header stay on the bike. That is what allows the article to hold a Euro5 approval and still show a power gain — Spark puts the gain down to the internal diameters and outlet sizing rather than to anything being taken away.

The Case Does the Work, the Cap Does the Talking

It is easy to look at these three articles as a colour choice and forget what is behind the cap. The round titanium case is the part that takes the kilo out of the motorcycle, holds the packing, and survives a decade of heat cycles without going soft at the seams. It is identical across all three.

The cap is the visible half of the deal. Spark could have pressed it from steel and sold the slip-on for less; machining it from solid aluminium on five axes is a decision about how the article is meant to be looked at, and it is most of the difference in price to the carbon version.

Keeping the Colour

Anodised aluminium and titanium both dislike solvents. Spark's instruction is water and a rinse, no degreaser and no aggressive car-wash chemistry. A red cap that has been attacked by a strong cleaner goes patchy, and there is no way back from it.
