Valves and needles set the adjustable part of the damping; the piston sets the rest. A check valve holds pressure in one direction and opens in the other; a worn one lets damping bleed away. The piston carries the shim stacks and meters the oil; its port layout is what makes an Öhlins damper behave the way it does.

Why the Original

Öhlins numbers every position so a workshop can order precisely what it needs, not a whole assembly. Öhlins publishes dimensions for its service parts so a workshop can verify before it fits. We can check the number against the Öhlins exploded view before you order — just ask. If you are between two sizes, send us the measurement and we will check it against the catalogue.

How to Be Sure It Fits

Part number 15489-03 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Where no measurement is given, the drawing position is what identifies the part. Needle geometry sets the shape of the adjustable range, not just its size. The seat face has to be flat enough for the first shim to seal against it.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 15489-03

Category: Check Valves

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/15489-03_469425fb-19fe-44a8-bc07-3faa6611557a.png?v=1788876514
