Why Anybody Removes ABS
Weight and hydraulic simplicity on a machine used exclusively on a circuit, where the braking system is set up once and used the same way every lap.
Ducati's Own Connector
The eliminator plugs into the harness rather than being spliced into it, which is what makes refitting the standard unit a straightforward afternoon.
Potted Against Water
The unit lives in the same wet, salted part of the motorcycle the modulator occupied, so everything electrical inside it is sealed as a unit.
Nothing Is Flashed
No software is written and no parameter edited. The part works through what it presents electrically at the connector, which is why it needs no setup.
Brake Lines First
The electrical side is the simpler half. Anybody planning this should have the hydraulic routing worked out before ordering anything at all.
Not Road Legal
A registered motorcycle supplied with antilock braking needs it working. This part exists for machines used away from public roads.
Why This Is a Circuit-Only Decision
Antilock braking works precisely in the conditions a rider cannot plan for, which is the opposite of what a track session is. On a machine that never sees a wet public road the mass and the plumbing are a reasonable thing to question; on one that does, they are not.
A Small Machine With a Full-Size System
The modulator, its lines and its brackets weigh the same here as on a considerably faster motorcycle, which makes their share of the total more noticeable. That is the honest version of the weight argument, and it applies more to this machine than to most.
Where the Unit Sits
Behind the headstock under the tank on this platform, which means the tank comes off before anything can be reached. The electrical connector is straightforward once it is exposed; the brake lines above and below it are the part that needs planning.
