DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few motocross bikes change owners as often as an 85. Young riders outgrow them within a couple of seasons, so a Kawasaki KX85 can pass through several families, and nearly every one of them will have seen it lying in the dirt. When a used example arrives home, the front brake lever is often the first part that needs attention: bent, snapped short in a crash or loose on its pivot. The B8262 from Accossato is a folding replacement for the KX85 built from 2001 to 2022, milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KX85, model years 2001 to 2022
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint: the blade can fold forward when the bike goes down
- Short blade, drawn by Accossato for three fingers
- CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Dark base with a black, blue, gold or green blade
- Delivered as a single lever
- No German ABE on record; made for motocross and off-road riding
Construction and Material Quality
Nothing on the B8262 is cast or pressed. Accossato starts with a solid billet of Ergal 7075, a particularly strong aluminium alloy, and cuts the lever out of it on CNC machinery in Italy, aiming for a part that stays strong, light and dependable season after season. Two pieces come out of that process. The dark base sits on the pivot of the Kawasaki's master cylinder, and the blade, in black, blue, gold or green, hangs from it on the joint that allows it to fold. Since this is the brake side, the blade is the shorter of Accossato's two off-road shapes, with room for three fingers.
What a Used 85 Tells You
Anyone who has shopped for a second-hand 85 learns to read its controls. A brake lever bent back towards the grip, a tip filed smooth after it broke, a blade that rocks on its pivot: each one records a moment from the bike's earlier life, and on a KX85 from any year between 2001 and 2022 you can expect to find at least one of them. That is no reason to walk away, because young riders fall often and a sound machine can carry the marks of many crashes. It does mean the front lever tends to be on the list of first jobs, together with grips, chain and sprockets and a careful look over the brakes.
Fitting a folding blade at that stage changes what the next fall costs. The KX85 will go down again, probably many times, and the right-hand lever will keep meeting hard ground, a track marker or the edge of a rut. On the B8262 the blade hangs on a joint and can swing forward out of the way rather than soak up the impact at its end, which gives it a decent prospect of still being straight when the bike is lifted. It will not come through every impact. When it does, though, the session goes on, and when the KX85 is eventually sold to the next family, it leaves with a front lever that has had a better chance of staying intact.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's application list the B8262 is named for the Kawasaki KX85 from 2001 through 2022, where it takes the place of the original lever at the stock front brake master cylinder. The left side is covered by the C7220 folding clutch lever, listed for the very same years. Blue is made only for this brake lever; black, gold and green exist for both, which allows a green pair if you would like the levers to pick up the colour of Kawasaki's plastics.
Road Approval
The B8262 has no documented German ABE. Like the KX85 it is built for, it belongs on motocross tracks and other off-road ground, not on public roads.
