This is the one you buy knowing exactly what you are giving up. The rated flow of the P14 is 1,800 l/m²/sec; the woven panel that fits the same airbox is rated at 5,050. That is roughly a third, it is printed by the manufacturer rather than buried, and it is the entire point rather than a flaw in the design. In exchange the rating moves from 80 microns to 14. PM210P14 is a purchase made in one direction on purpose: less air per unit of cloth, and a great deal less of everything else.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 microns, the fine medium catalogued for this airbox
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the woven panel in the same box
- Retention through the depth of a fibre mat rather than at a flat woven face
- Goes into the series FTR airbox with nothing cut, no adapter and no remap
- Around twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- Dry from manufacture, never oiled, washable, two years of warranty
Buying a restriction on purpose
Almost everything sold for an intake is sold on the promise of less restriction. This is the exception, and it deserves to be described clearly. Nothing about a finer medium finds air; it hands some back, deliberately, to keep more out of the inlet tract. That trade only pays where there is genuinely something to keep out — dry summer roads, gravel, roadworks, a long ride behind traffic — and where the alternative is a weave passing material a fine mat would have stopped. On clean sealed surfaces the woven panel in the same box is the better-matched choice, and choosing it is not a downgrade.
Where the honesty runs both ways
Two claims get made about elements like this and both need trimming. The first is that a filter adds power. It does not: a slot-in element does not make a standard 1200 noticeably stronger, whichever medium sits in the frame. The second is that a fine medium is simply a better filter with no downside, and the flow figure says otherwise, plainly, in the manufacturer's own literature. What you actually get is a large, dry, reusable mat that holds fine material back, is emptied with air, and is put back rather than replaced.
Care and cleaning
The PM210P14 is serviced dry, and the direction matters more here than anywhere. Hold the air line to the clean face and work outwards, so the load leaves the mat by the route it entered instead of being pushed deeper into its thickness. A greasy film comes away under lukewarm water with a little mild detergent, rinsed until nothing more leaves the material. Drying is ambient and unhurried, with no heat gun, no radiator and no flame anywhere near it. It goes back dry, with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Indian FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S from 2019 to 2026, a single element per machine, seated in the unmodified airbox. Two more listings take the same code, the Rally and the Carbon, both running from 2020. All three are shown under the Fitment tab.
