Yamaha updated the R7 for 2026, and the ignition wiring moved with it. JP KS YA067 — the switch developed for the R9 — is the part that fits the updated bike, where earlier R7s take the CP2-family number instead.
Key Features
- For the 2026 Yamaha R7
- Removes the ignition block, key and lock from the cockpit
- Roughly 350 g saved at the top of the chassis
- Machined Ergal housing with an IP69K push button
- Key Box supplied for the Yamaha immobiliser
- Plug-and-play on the factory connector
2026 Takes a Different Number
This is the detail that catches people out. R7s from 2022 to 2025 use the part that also covers the MT-07 and Ténéré 700; the 2026 bike uses this one, shared with the R9. The motorcycles look closely related and the difference is entirely in the connector, so the model year is the only reliable check.
What Actually Changes on the Bike
Removing the barrel does three things at once. It takes about 350 g off the highest, most forward point of the chassis. It removes a lock cylinder — an open mechanism pointed at the sky — and replaces it with a button sealed to IP69K. And it clears the cockpit, which on a bike with as spare a dashboard as the R7 is more noticeable than it would be elsewhere.
Installation
The switch uses the standard mounting points and the original ignition plug. Nothing is cut and nothing is soldered, so the job is short and it is fully reversible — the factory block refits whenever the bike needs to go back to standard.
