DescriptionThe whole story▼
A single titanium silencer of 1.7 kg replacing a 3.0 kg standard unit, on the big Testastretta Multistrada that makes 145 PS. This is the entry point into exhaust tuning for that machine — Akrapovic's own words — and it holds EC and ECE approval while keeping the Ducati panniers.
Key Features
- 1.7 kg against the standard 3.0 kg: 1.3 kg and 43.3 per cent less
- 2.2 PS (1.6 kW) more at 10,100 rpm and 1.7 Nm more at 8,100 rpm on a bike that already makes 145.5 PS
- Lightweight titanium body, hand-made carbon fibre end cap and heat shield
- Compatible with the Ducati side cases
- Also fits the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak
- Can be combined with the optional titanium header E-D12E6
- EC and ECE type approved, plug-and-play with no remapping
The Entry Point, and What Comes After
Akrapovic describes this system explicitly as the entry-level step into exhaust tuning for the big Multistrada, and the path from here is documented: the optional titanium header E-D12E6 is designed to work with this silencer, and an optional noise damper V-TUV227 is available for circuits with a limit. That is a rare thing to find spelled out — most manufacturers leave the owner to guess whether two parts belong together.
The silencer itself is a single unit rather than the twin conical pipes Akrapovic uses on the smaller Multistrada 950 and V2. On a 1,262 cc twin with this much torque, one larger volume does the job that two short cones do on the middleweight.
Handling
1.3 kg from a machine weighing 235 kg wet is not a transformation, but it comes off the highest point on the right-hand side of a tall adventure bike, and Akrapovic states improved handling and manoeuvrability as the direct consequence. On a Multistrada moved by hand in a garage or paddled through a turn, that is where it shows.
Measured on the 1260, Fitted to Both
The Multistrada 1200 and the 1260 are not the same engine. Ducati went from 1,198 cc to 1,262 cc for 2018 and moved the torque substantially lower in the rev range. The exhaust mounting did not change, so one silencer covers 2015 to 2020 — but the figures published here were taken on a 2018 Multistrada 1260.
On a 1200 the part fits exactly and the weight saving is identical, because the silencer is the same object. The power and torque numbers belong to the 1260 and should be read that way. No removable noise insert is supplied, and no remapping is required.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-D12SO9-HAPT covers the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and 1200 S from model year 2015 through 2017 and the Multistrada 1260 and 1260 S from 2018 through 2020, and Akrapovic confirms it fits the 1260 Pikes Peak. Installation is quoted at around 30 minutes.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
