DescriptionThe whole story▼

Read the incompatibility before anything else. Akrapovic states that this heat shield does not fit the carbon Slip-On Line S-K4SO6-APC — which is the carbon silencer we also list for this motorcycle.

Key Features

  • Hand-crafted carbon fibre
  • Finishes the look of the Slip-On Line exhaust
  • Covers the Ninja 400, the Z400 and the Ninja 500 across nine model years
  • Does NOT fit the carbon slip-on S-K4SO6-APC
  • An optional extra rather than a required part

Which Silencer Do You Have

Akrapovic builds several slip-ons for this platform, and this shield goes with all of them except one. If your Ninja carries S-K4SO6-APC — the carbon version with the removable insert — the shield will not line up.

That is not a warning we are inferring. Akrapovic names the part number explicitly in its own description, which is unusual and worth taking at face value.

The number is printed on the silencer body. Send it to us if you are unsure and we will confirm before the order goes out.

Nine Model Years

Kawasaki has kept the shield mounting unchanged from the 2018 Ninja 400 through the 451 cc Ninja 500 of 2024 onwards, and across the naked Z400. One part covers all of them.

On a platform this commonly bought used, that span means a shield bought today will move onto the next bike if the next bike is another Kawasaki 400.

What It Does and Does Not Do

It keeps heat off the rider's leg, exactly as the standard steel shield does. It adds no power, saves no meaningful weight and changes nothing about how the motorcycle runs.

What it changes is that the silencer and the panel beside it read as one designed component rather than as an aftermarket part next to a factory pressing. On a small naked bike where the exhaust is fully exposed, that is the whole proposition.

Two Minutes With a Hex Key

A heat shield hangs on two or three fasteners and comes off without touching the exhaust. There is nothing to align, nothing to reprogram and no reason to involve a workshop.

Keep the Standard Shield

Kawasaki's original is a painted steel pressing worth nothing on its own and quite a lot in a box when the motorcycle is sold with all its factory parts.

Nine Years, Three Names

Ninja 400, Z400, Ninja 500 — one platform, one shield mounting, 2018 to 2026. Kawasaki enlarged the engine and changed the name without touching the part this shield bolts to.

An Optional Extra

The exhaust is complete and works without it. This shield is for owners who want the carbon to carry through from the silencer to the panel beside their leg — on a small naked bike, that is two of the very few visible surfaces there are.

Fitment and Compatibility

P-HSK4SO5 covers the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and Z400 from 2018 and the Ninja 500 from 2024, through 2026 — except in combination with S-K4SO6-APC.
