DescriptionThe whole story▼
Titanium headers, not steel. That is what separates the Evolution Line from the Racing Line for this generation of CRF450R, and it is where the price difference and the weight difference both come from.
Key Features

- Torque up by 2.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm
- Used by race teams
- Removable noise insert supplied
- Closed course competition use only
Evolution or Racing
Akrapovic builds both lines for the 2017 to 2020 CRF450R, and the published power and torque figures are identical. The difference is entirely in the headers: titanium here, stainless steel on the Racing Line S-H4MR16-CIQTA.
Titanium is lighter and costs more. Steel survives being landed on. For a rider who bins the bike regularly the Racing Line is the more sensible purchase, and we say so on both pages.
Half a Kilogram
The saving here is 0.52 kg — modest next to what the road systems in this catalogue achieve, and the reason is that Honda's original was never a Euro-compliance box. A motocross bike carries no catalytic converter and no noise-limit hardware beyond what the FIM demands, so there is little excess to remove.
What titanium buys on a competition bike is not weight so much as the ability to make a thin-walled part that still survives the season.
Four Model Years
Honda kept this CRF450R generation from 2017 to 2020 before the 2021 redesign. One system covers all four years, including the cross-country CRF450RX with its larger tank and kickstand.
FIM Noise Limits
Competition sound rules shape a modern motocross exhaust more than power targets do. This system meets the FIM limits with the insert fitted, which is the condition under which a bike passes scrutineering at a regulated meeting.
Also for the RX
Honda's CRF450RX is the cross-country version — larger tank, kickstand, softer suspension and a wider ratio gearbox. It shares the frame and the exhaust route with the R, so this system fits both across all four years.
Titanium Headers Are the Difference
Steel headers weigh more but shrug off a fall. Titanium headers save half a kilogram and mark or crack where steel would only bend. Neither is wrong — the choice depends on how often the motorcycle ends up on its side.
Half a Kilogram, and What It Costs
0.52 kg is the entire weight advantage over the Racing Line for the same machine, and it accounts for most of the price difference between the two. On a competition bike where every gram is argued over that is a defensible trade; on a practice machine it is harder to justify.
Both pages say the same thing, because it is the same decision seen from either side.
Road Approval
None. For closed course competition use only. Not intended for street use.
