DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every S 1000 XR tour begins at the owner's front door. Plenty of riders load the bike into a van or onto a trailer, drive to the foot of the Alps or to a circuit, and only then start the engine. Getting a tall, heavy motorcycle up and down a narrow ramp is a moment when things can go wrong, and the rear end is often the part that gets away. For the S 1000 XR of 2015 to 2018, Accossato has the PP001 rear axle sliders: two black protectors in aluminium and plastic, meant for the swingarm and rear axle.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the BMW S 1000 XR, 2015 to 2018
- Accossato Rear Fork Protection, code PP001
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Two protectors per pack, one for each side of the swingarm
- Spacers, screws and all other fitting parts included, as Accossato states
- Intended to touch down first and help limit damage at the swingarm and rear axle
- Matches the PF057 front sliders and TP083 crash pads listed for this bike
- For track and competition use; no German ABE
Construction and Material Quality
Rear Fork Protection is Accossato's own name for this item, and it refers to protectors for the swingarm and rear axle, not for the front fork. The PP001 is built of aluminium and plastic, comes in black and is packed in pairs. Spacers, screws and the remaining parts for mounting travel in the same box, the maker says. Its description stops short of saying how the protectors are positioned on the S 1000 XR, and so do we; the application list is what decides whether the part is right for your bike.
Ramps, Straps and Trailers
The trickiest part of transporting a motorcycle is getting it in and out. A ramp that is too steep or too narrow, a damp surface or a helper who lets go at the wrong moment can all end with the bike on its side next to the van. With the S 1000 XR, its height makes it harder to see where the rear wheel is heading. Push it up with the engine off and a second person steadying the rear, or ride it up slowly in first gear only if the ramp is wide and secure. Once inside, strap it down at front and rear, pulling the suspension down a little so that it cannot rock on bends. Unloading is the more dangerous half: go slowly, keep a hand on the front brake and never stand below the bike on the ramp. Rear sliders are for the moment when a wheel slips off the edge or the bike topples in the load space. When you arrive, check that they and their screws are still tight before the first ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PP001 for the S 1000 XR from 2015 to 2018, one year fewer than the PF057 front axle sliders for the same bike, which run to 2019; the TP083 crash pads complete the set for the XR. At Inter-Pace the PP001 is also listed for the S 1000 R, the S 1000 RR and the Aprilia RSV4. Once it is fitted, turn the rear wheel by hand: the protectors must not touch the chain, the brake caliper or the silencer. Tighten the screws as the workshop manual specifies and look at them again after the first ride.
Road Approval
We do not hold a German ABE or test documentation for the PP001. It is available for racing and competition.
